Mindscape - Winter Hues
This project was for a competition that we are entering in January 2024. As a group of three, two of my classmates and I had two weeks to create a space of 500 sq feet for college students who struggled with their mental health. We designed a pop-up structure on campus that would appear when daylight savings time came around in November and leaves in March. The space is used as an escape from Seasonal Affective Disorder. Our idea stems from studies of light therapy, physical activity, and community support to help individuals with depressive thoughts through winter months (NHS, May 2022). This part of the year is the hardest due to the lack of sunlight and outdoor activities. In response, the space will provide a replica of what it is like to spend time outside during summer days and feel the sunlight on your skin. We also have included a secluded area for those who can’t “do life” that day. And lastly the incorporation of a studio space for brain stimulating activities.
